ROSES

When going through my beauty cabinet a while back I noticed that I am fairly obsessed with roses. From lip balm, to lotion, body spritz’s and bath bombs, everything had that decadent floral ingredient. It got me to think, do cosmetic companies add this to their products only to make it smell good, or are there actual benefits to this.

Roses are sick. A majority of all rose species originate from the middle and far east, there it was used more as a medicine than as a food and beauty product. The Cherokee rose was used in china to treat diarrhea, and in the 1930s with the discovery of vitamin c, people believed that rose-hips (the base of the blooming petals) could cure the common cold because of its abundance of the vitamin.

They actually serve a purpose. Rose oils and creams are used to treat dry or inflamed skin and contain several therapeutic compounds that promote healing. The antimicrobial properties of the flower also can be used to treat acne, simply dab drops of pure rose essential oil onto blemishes and the potent oil will help alleviate inflammation as well as improve the overall texture of skin. Using a rosewater spray is also a great addition to any beauty regime because rose oil increases your skins permeability (ability to breathe).

these are a couple of my favorite rose infused products...

Rose water spray: this is a staple product for me, I use this as a refreshing spray throughout the day, and also as a setting spray for my makeup. The light mist sets powders and give skin a much more natural finish, and it also smells flat out amazing.

Rose Essential Oil: I add a dash of this to my moisturizer in the morning to give my skin a radiant glow and add some good oils and minerals to keep my face happy.

Rose Tea: This is one of my favorite teas to sip on, it has a light floral flavor and is also great served iced for those hot summer days!
