Brett King is a photographer from Portland, Oregon and at the young age of 20 he has been able to work with a slew of talented individuals to create a portfolio of pure artistic magic. With his ability to captivate an audience with his beautifully gritty portraits and his recognizably edgy style he has built a name for himself and become a photographer everyone wants to work with. Aside from being a gifted photographer, artist, and creator of amazing things, Brett is also an all around great person and we got the chance to sit down together and find out a little bit more about him.

When did you start taking photos?
"It was kind of an accident, I got an internship as writer at a newspaper and when they hired me on they gave me a camera, and I started taking pictures, but they were all so sh*tty and terrible. So I went home and I researched how to take photos and I grew from there. I started taking photos in a gym at a basketball game at 17, and learned how to edit them by working at a dentists office and editing before and after teeth pictures for marketing. The teeth you see on the walls in those offices are highly edited; not real at all."
How would you describe your style?
"Punk rock street. Its like a mixture of the sex pistols and modern street wear."
What is your favorite photoshoot to date?
"Taking pictures of my little sisters with my film camera. That’s my favorite thing. They live on a farm and make their own dresses and live a very old vintage lifestyle and they like to run around and it all creates a very eerie image."

Who's your idol?
"The world is full of so many inspirational people, each with their own unique qualities I value. So there are three people who I am really interested in right now: Stanley Kubrick for his unique filmmaking, eerie visionaries and story writing, Jack White for his musical versatility and dedication to his art, and Sir Isaac Newton for being such a smart motherf****r."
When you were younger where did you think your life would look like at 2o?
"It's kinda trippy. I didn’t think I'd be a photographer. I didn’t think I'd find myself fitting into the photographer world, and what I really wanted to do is become a drummer. But once I got into it [photography] I had a bunch of people I looked up to and I got to meet them within the last year which is crazy. I would not have pictured myself where I am. My mom pictured me married by now with two kids."

Where do you see yourself in 5 years ?
"Homeless... no just kidding. I'm hoping to make films. Photography has helped guide my creativity and it's much different than film, but theres a lot of things I can pull from it into film making. Ideally I would at least have a couple films made and maybe have a cute little apartment I designed and maybe live in some city, but I don't know what city? New York, Los Angeles, Portland, San Francisco, Houston ? haha, no not Houston."
Now we are going to ask you some silly questions because its fun and why not !
What's your favorite plant?
"My tiny fern that never dies, it was my first plant and its been around for 2 years."
What is your favorite album?
"I can think of 20 I really like, but I think its Disintegration by the Cure."
Who or what is your favorite designer or brand?
"Definitely YSL! I love how he's in the rock and roll community but he's a high end fashion designer."
If you could punch one person in the face who would it be?
"You know who… but I cant say! I'm not violent ..but I'd like to join fight club and punch Brad Pitt. It'd be my claim to fame."
If you could eat one food, and one food only for a week what would it be?
"Burritos, with just rice and beans made by me in my own kitchen."
WE LOVE YOU BRETT !
